A diabetic since early childhood, Mitsuru is a gentle and kind soul with a remarkable sense of duty towards family. Along with her older brother, Junichi, she is a survivor of the Miyako tsunami that followed the Tohoku earthquake in 2011, killing nearly 16,000 native residents. Both had lost their mother on that day and their father prior from lung cancer. Mitsuru, accidentally exposed to irradiated water, suffered deep radiation burns throughout her body which over time left her without pigment or a face.
While her brother nearly worked himself to death to support both of them, Mitsuru opted to both ease the financial burden and seek cosmetic restoration by accepting an offer she could not refuse from a powerful benefactor within the fashion industry. But what she finally discovers that the public does not know of the business ultimately changes her.
